Some additional reading on Biochemistry and Cell Biology (Module 3)
Class 1
- The Inner Life of a Cell - Harvard University's Award-winning animation of cellular processes
- The Virtual Cell
- Online Onion Root Tip - Virtual view of
the cells and chromosomes you saw in the studio (From the University of Arizona)
- Cell structures - an
overview
- The WWW Cell
Biology Course - From the U. of Minnesota
- A Glossary
of Cell Biology and Genetics terms - look up those mysterious words!
- Atlas of Cell
Structure - Lots of good pictures of cells and organelles, using light
and confocal microscopy
- Cell size and scale - from a coffee bean to a carbon atom!
- Virtual Cell Biology Lessons
(with graded quizzes) - From ThinkQuest.
- The Cell Gallery
(also from ThinkQuest)
- Nanoworld - This
Web site is maintained by The Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis
(University of Queensland). There are some nice graphics dealing with the
issue of scale, and a lot of information about microscopy in general (e.g.,
scanning electron microscope (SEM)). Their fine image
gallery is certainly worth a look. (Caution: Some of the images are
fairly large and may take a while to load/download, depending on the system
you're using.)
- CELLS alive! - This site has a
variety of multimedia material (i.e., images, animations, and video) dealing
with various aspects of cell biology. There is also a collection of links to
other Web sites concerned with cell biology, microbiology and pathogens of
humans.
- Virtual
Microscopy - Use (virtually) a scanning electron microscope and lots of
other types of light microscopes on this fascinating website!
- Look
at a cheek cell (and lots of other things) in this virtual microscopy
tutorial.
