About K-State eIDs

Every K-State student and employee has a free eID. Potential K-Staters and others may also register for a K-State eID (see Eligibility for a K-State eID).

Your eID becomes part of your K-State e-mail address (eID@ksu.edu). It's protected by a password that must NOT be shared. Student and employee eIDs are given access to resources that include:

Some K-State technology resources are reserved for current students and employees. Those privileges change if you leave the university. See What happens to my eID when I leave K-State?

Passwords

Passwords for all K-State eIDs (including group eIDs) must be changed twice a year, each fall and spring semester. See the Password FAQs for details. To change your password, go to the eid.k-state.edu website.

Student eIDs

An overview of things students need to know is in Using e-mail and your K-State eID.

Employee eIDs

Faculty and staff must select an eID after their employment papers are processed. Those who need one earlier should have their unit's personnel officer follow instructions from Human Resources.

Special Access eIDs

Those who are not K-State students or employees, but are associated with the university in a manner that furthers the mission of K-State, may be eligible for access to IT resources. See the K-State eID Policy's section on eligibility. If approved, the Special Access recipient must self-register an eID, and the department personnel officer must complete the Request for a K-State Special Access eID.

Group accounts

A group account functions just like an individual eID, with its own e-mailbox and disk space. For security purposes, it requires additional steps in the sign-in process. A group account is useful when
  • Departments, units, and organizations need shared access to e-mail, files, or project space.
  • Two or more staff handle e-mail, and all of it must be kept in a central mailbox.
  • A department, unit, or organization needs an official e-mail address.

For details, see the summary of group accounts and the Group Account Form.

If the password on a group account is not changed during the password-change timeframe, the group account is disabled. To re-enable it, a Group Account Form must be resubmitted.

People Directory information

Students, faculty, and staff should be aware that unless otherwise restricted or unlisted, information about them -- including their name, phone, local/campus address, and e-mail address -- is published in the Campus Phone Book, the K-State People Directory online, and possibly other venues.
  • Questions about e-mail addresses and other information in the K-State People Directory should be referred to the IT Help Desk, 313 Hale Library, (785) 532-7722, helpdesk@ksu.edu.

For some publications, students can change their addresses and phone numbers by using KATS, the K-State Access Technology System.

  • Questions about directory information for students, as defined in the Student Records Policy, should be referred to the Registrar's Office.

  • Questions about directory information for K-State employees — both faculty/staff and student employees — should be referred to your department's personnel officer. Public employees are generally required to have a directory entry that includes name, job title, department, office phone, campus address, and e-mail address. However, you may choose to have your home phone and home address unlisted.
