Clients:
What you may do with stock photos you purchase from us:
You are purchasing the right to put photos on your K-State web site, in your department publication, brochure, or video. Photos may be used in advertisements on behalf of K-State departments and colleges and other official K-State units, but not for advertising by commercial companies or individuals.
You also may order prints or enlargements from any vendor and hang the prints on your wall. You may use the photo as many times as you wish.
You receive only the rights noted above. The photographers retain the right to use and resell their work.
Any other use beyond those noted in the first paragraph must be approved in advance by the university photographer or the assistant vice president for university relations.
What you may not do:
Make greeting cards or any other items you wish to sell. This becomes commercial use and must be licensed by the university. Only the photographer who made the original image has the right to license it.
What's available:
At present, we are offering jpgs only. We are not offering prints. You will receive a high-resolution image that you can send to any photo processor by e-mail and order a print. If you buy 11 or more prints, we will put them on a CD for you at no additional charge.
Photographers:
You provide K-State University Relations with two versions of each photo: 1) a low res version with a watermark of your choosing; and 2) a high res version with no marks that we will provide to the buyer. Although we encourage you to edit your photos as much or as little as you wish, many buyers want a full frame image for use on covers of publications, or inside with copy printed over the photo. We encourage you not to crop.
We will not select every photo submitted to us for our stock photography site. Sometimes we receive images that are very similar to ones we have already accepted. If we have too many of one kind of image, we won't add more that are similar.
How you are paid:
To begin, we will charge the buyer $5 for each stock photo. The photographer will receive $2.50 for each image sold. We will keep track of sales and will send a check quarterly. If you are a student photographer, be sure to keep us informed anytime you move. Your stock photos could continue to sell long after you graduate.
Visibility:
We plan a web page with thumbnail photos or avatars (ala flickr) of each photographer, along with a brief blurb about each person -- either describing their photo style, or a sentence or two about the person. This is optional, but we think it will be fun. If you choose this option, give us one or two sentences about your photo work, photo philosophy, etc. Let us know whether you consider your style traditional, edgy, etc.
Identifying your photos:
We will code your photos with your initials and a number for each photo.
If you prefer to remain anonymous, we will assign you a number without initials.
