K-STATE RESEARCHERS EVALUATING TESTS THAT PROTECT SOLDIERS FROM PATHOGENS ON THE BATTLEFIELD: The U.S. has military personnel stationed around the world, and often those service members eat locally acquired food that may not have been processed the same way food is processed in the U.S. That's why K-State researchers are working with the U.S. Department of Defense to better protect American troops from the possibility of intentional or unintentional food contamination.

K-STATE STUDENTS PARTNER WITH WATERSHED RESTORATION PROJECT IN A WATER MANAGEMENT CAMPAIGN: Kansas State University students involved with a communications campaign for the Delaware River Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy program will present their contributions to the campaign at a community event Thursday, May 1.

K-STATE HONORS 13 GRADUATING SENIORS FOR LEADERSHIP, IMPROVING CAMPUS LIFE: Kansas State University has recognized 13 students as outstanding graduating seniors. They were honored at an April 16 reception by Pat Bosco, K-State associate vice president for institutional advancement and dean of student life.

Herspring criticizes Rumsfeld's performance as secretary of defense, a tenure that ended when he stepped down in November 2006.

UPGRADE TO K-STATE'S RESEARCH REACTOR EXPANDS POTENTIAL FOR RESEARCH, CREATES MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS: A power upgrade that will make Kansas State University's nuclear reactor the fifth highest-powered university reactor in the country is expanding the possibilities for researchers who work in areas like radiation detector testing, radiography and trace element analysis.

DELEGATION FROM SOUTH KOREAN UNIVERSITY USES K-STATE'S BRI AS A MODEL FOR THEIR BIOCONTAINMENT FACILITY, SOLIDIFIES RESEARCH PARTNERSHIPS: A delegation of academics, politicians and engineers associated with Seoul National University were in Manhattan recently to bolster research relationships in agricultural sciences and learn all they could about how Kansas State University's BRI -- Biosecurity Research Institute -- was built.

K-STATE TO HOST LAB ROBOTICS TRAINING TO PREPARE LAB TECHNICIANS IN CASE OF ANIMAL DISEASE OUTBREAK: In case of a widespread outbreak, the ability to process thousands of diagnostic samples will be critical to stamping out animal disease in a timely fashion.

K-STATE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASES NAME OF STUDENT WHO DIED FROM INJURIES SUFFERED IN BALCONY FALL: The Kansas State University Police Department has released the name of the K-State student who died from injuries received when he fell from a balcony at the university's Jardine Apartment Complex.

NEW DIGITAL MEDIA PROGRAM AT K-STATE AT SALINA TO KICK OFF WITH A WEBKINZ PARTY AT OPEN HOUSE: When Bill Genereux, assistant professor of engineering technology at Kansas State University at Salina, purchased a Webkinz stuffed animal for his daughter's birthday, he had no idea how closely related the toy would be to a project he had been working on for more than a year.

K-STATE'S MCCAIN PERFORMANCE SERIES TO PRESENT 'HUCK AND TOM AND THE MIGHTY MISSISSIPPI': Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn have one of most endearing friendships in literature and their adventures will be performed at Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium. The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, and is part of the McCain Performance Series.

K-STATE DEBATE TEAM FINISHES SIXTH IN THE NATION: The Kansas State University debate team finished the season ranked sixth in the nation, according to the Cross Examination and Debate Association and the National Debate Tournament.

WINNERS OF K-STATE CONCERTO AND ARIA COMPETITION PERFORM AS SOLOISTS: Four students at Kansas State University won the opportunity to perform with the K-State Orchestra as vocal or instrumental soloists through the department's annual Concerto-Aria Competition.

K-STATE SENIOR WINS FOUR NATIONAL TITLES IN FORENSICS TOURNEY: A senior in political science at Kansas State University has won four titles at a national forensics competition, making him only the second person in the event's 31-year history to do so.

K-STATE CHINESE INSTRUCTOR WORKS TO CONNECT TWO WORLDS ON A SINGLE CAMPUS: As director of Kansas State University's Chinese language program, Wei Wu has the challenge of clarifying the complexities of Mandarin for her 60 or so American students. In her less formal role as cultural go-between, Wu has perhaps a bigger job of explaining America to Chinese students who find themselves on campus, but still at sea.

GAYLE DOLL NAMED DIRECTOR OF K-STATE'S CENTER ON AGING: Gayle Appel Doll has been an elementary art teacher, a YMCA fitness leader, a professional quilter and a Kansas State University Research and Extension project manager.

K-STATE COLLEGE OF HUMAN ECOLOGY HONORS TWO FACULTY MEMBERS: The College of Human Ecology at Kansas State University is recognizing two of its faculty members for excellence.

K-STATE'S DANIEL KUESTER IS FIRST TRENARY CHAIR IN ECONOMICS: Daniel Kuester, an assistant professor of economics at Kansas State University, has been named the first Trenary Chair in Economics.

DIRECTOR OF CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY TO PRESENT LANDON LECTURE AT K-STATE: The director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Gen. Michael Hayden, will present a Landon Lecture at Kansas State University. Hayden will speak at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, in McCain Auditorium.

K-STATE STUDENTS RECEIVE NSF GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS: One current and one recently graduated engineering student from Kansas State University have received National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships. Three K-State seniors also received honorable mentions.

RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS EARN K-STATE STUDENTS HONORS FROM THE KANSAS ACADEMY OF SCIENCE: Three Kansas State University undergraduates have won awards for their research presented at the 140th annual meeting of the Kansas Academy of Science, March 28-29, at Emporia State University.
